You can have a system for solving problems, but you need to have ideas -- not just what you already know, but new ideas.
To get new ideas, you need to use some form of lateral thinking. This is a way to connect seemingly unrelated ideas. Some people have higher aptitudes for this type of thinking, but anyone can learn from others and improve their own ability to think creatively. In this series, we discover how inventive thinkers made their discoveries. We can stretch our own minds by learning more about theirs.
